Photography portraiture

Experimental Lighting: coloured gels and hand held torches were used to achieve the effects, combine with a long exposure time.

Lighting Ratio 1:3- This pic of Nath from Melbourne Blackbooks Art Crew uses traditional lighting techniques which include highlights with tone, open shadows with soft edges and a triangle of light on the cheek.

Hard Lighting- I used a spotlight which was directed through a small gap in a board placed above the models position. Got some really strong contrast with intense highlights and black shadows. Thanks Henrietta.

Soft Lighting- Using the Ring Light to create this low contrast and diffused self portrait.

I thought it was due time to post some of the photographic work from this semester. These images were for an assignment requiring the use of studio lighting. I found it an interesting exercise, although frustrating at times.

Artist's book project

These are some of the images that will be used for part of my artists book project. The photographs were taken by my father while he served in the army during the Vietnam war. At this point of the project I'm thinking of printing the war era images onto transparent paper, and then juxtaposing these images over images that I took myself when I holidayed in Vietnam in 2008.
