Abstract

Untitled, acrylic on board

Another work which investigates different techniques in acrylic, as well as the effect of colour schemes. It consists of an underlayer of opaque paints, which is then overlaid with transparent layers, then finished with the opaque pure white on the left side of the image.

Abstract/ed

Untitled, acrylic on board

This work is partially an investigation of the technique of pointillism.
It also investigates the use of glazing and layering of transparent colours with the acrylic medium.
One of my photographs from the Melbourne CBD was used as a reference for the image.

Good to be back

"Bear void background" in black (detail)

"Bear void background" in black

Firstly it's great to be posting again. This is a collograph print from a recently completed series of work which investigates the use of animals as metaphors for primal human emotions. The series also contemplates the juxtaposition of these feelings with the fabricated environments of modern society.

Life Drawing

I figured that since I hadn't posted any drawing for a while, I might put these in. They were done during the last couple of weeks of semester. I've also got some more images of the artists book that I've finally completed that I have to track down and post for viewing as well.

Photography portraiture

Experimental Lighting: coloured gels and hand held torches were used to achieve the effects, combine with a long exposure time.

Lighting Ratio 1:3- This pic of Nath from Melbourne Blackbooks Art Crew uses traditional lighting techniques which include highlights with tone, open shadows with soft edges and a triangle of light on the cheek.

Hard Lighting- I used a spotlight which was directed through a small gap in a board placed above the models position. Got some really strong contrast with intense highlights and black shadows. Thanks Henrietta.

Soft Lighting- Using the Ring Light to create this low contrast and diffused self portrait.

I thought it was due time to post some of the photographic work from this semester. These images were for an assignment requiring the use of studio lighting. I found it an interesting exercise, although frustrating at times.

Artist's book project

These are some of the images that will be used for part of my artists book project. The photographs were taken by my father while he served in the army during the Vietnam war. At this point of the project I'm thinking of printing the war era images onto transparent paper, and then juxtaposing these images over images that I took myself when I holidayed in Vietnam in 2008.
